Strategy + Experiments

AI consulting

AI adoption and co-building for teams who don't have time to muck about.

Everyone's talking about AI. No one's quite sure how to start. Let's fix it.

01

AI feasibility

You have some ideas for how you can use AI in your business but you're not quite sure how it all works.

Or perhaps you have no idea at all and are wondering what you might be missing.

  • Good for: creative or owner-led business, Mittelstand, single corporate departments

02

AI adoption

You've got all the tools, but nobody is using them. Some are not interested, some are afraid, shadow AI is an issue and early adopters are growing frustrated waiting for governance to catch up.

  • Good for: anyone with decision making power and good tolerance for experiments

03

AI co-building

Your team has good ideas, but they never get built. Contracting an agency takes too long and internal dev teams are busy with their daily work. Momentum disappears and takes interest with it.

  • Good for: individuals and teams who want to test their ideas in the real world

Real Talk

The Big Book of Magic Prompts is as real as the emperor's new wardrobe.

Over the last 36 months of working with GenAI, I've seen some astonishing things being built. But the idea that there is a magic combination of words that will get you exactly the output you want with no additional effort is a fiction. A very nice fiction, but a fiction nonetheless.

Why?

Because even if it were possible to write a magic prompt, that's solving for the wrong problem. Focusing on the prompt is like focusing on the recipe instead of the kitchen.

AI's biggest advantage is how it positions your team for the future.

  1. 01

    More autonomy

(assuming the governance model is sensible).

  2. 02

    Tacit knowledge becomes explicit

    (LLMs can't read minds. Yet.)

  3. 03

The team is skilling up and thinking up

They can solve their own problems and think about how that problem fits into the larger department or business.

  4. 04

    Creates space and momentum

Movement in one area creates movement in others. The process mapping, competitor analysis, pricing review, product innovation projects you haven't quite gotten around to, now seem within reach.

AI thoughts

Start with frustration, not imagination.

We've all seen the social media posts. GenAI can do just about anything you imagine and lots you can't. But when something can literally do anything, it can be hard to decide where to start.

In adoption engagements, whether for creatives, owner-operated businesses or corporate environments, we always start with what is annoying the user. Everyone else on the team might be able to calculate time zones in their head, but for the person who struggles, a desktop widget built in an hour is a meaningful improvement in their work day.

Micro-gains are hugely valuable - in aggregate.

I hear often from clients that they tried some AI, but the results were disappointing. Usually the small realized gain wasn't worth the effort. On the per gain level, they are right. Zoom out to the team or company view and you'll find that micro-gains at scale become an advantage.

Working with me

Who I work with

Usually small and medium-sized businesses. I like the interdisciplinary nature of the work and the shorter decision chain.

I design my engagements for maximum momentum. That doesn't mean we rush through, but rather that we remove the friction, so learning, prototyping and testing can happen as autonomously as possible.

In corporate environments, this is usually not possible. If that's not the case at your company, then let's chat.

How I work

My preferred method is an eight-week sprint, as I find it maximizes momentum in teams that still have to handle their daily work.

Additional formats

one-day workshops, five-day build sprints, retainer, department embed

Activities

workshops, lectures, coaching, interviews, research, co-building, strategy

Outputs

dashboards, training materials, artifacts, apps, prototypes, reports or decks

Questions people search for

What does an AI consultant do?

Finds the work AI can take off your team, tests whether it holds up, and helps build it. Most of the job is the process, not the model.

How much does AI consulting cost?

The assessment day has a fixed price, shown when you book. Projects are quoted after it; see Consulting for how they run.

Will this replace people?

It targets the tedious part of the job, not the job.

Do we need technical knowledge?

No. The work starts from the process, not the technology.
