It's not very difficult to make a concrete traffic island look less ugly.

It just needs time, soil, some lavender, and a moderate commitment to weeding.

What really makes it work, though, is letting go of the result and taking pleasure in new possibility. Maybe people will steal the flowers, or dogs will pee on them. But maybe also bees will have food, the soil will absorb the sun, and the neighbourhood's journey home will have a little more joy.
